Subject: LCM - LCM of Solid Waste RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE WITH ---REPLY TO ALL---
Dear Keith

Similar to a previous question that was mailed to the session, we had certain problems recently with evaluating the impact of landfill sites in South Africa and I am interested in your experiences. If one assumes that the landfill site is managed in accordance with legislative demands the leachate to the ambient water reserves would be minimal. However, one has to consider the time constraints in a life cycle analysis and especially for hazardous sites. For example, a landfill site could be operating for a period of 20 years. Metals, etc. contained in the site thereafter remains on the site and one has to make assumptions of the potential riks of exposure to the environment, and the allocation of these risks to the waste that is currently treated on the site. Are these kind of aspects considered in your model?

Kind regards
