I was tremendously impressed by the ideas expressed in this paper-- it seems
to be that the obvious benefit of the LCA inside the EMS is to provide a
science-based, and environmental performance based discipline to
environmental management and therefore a clear method of communication of
environmental goals and improvements both inside and outside the company.
Just as some companies have begun to measure global warming potential across
all operations, one could measure other LCA impact categories in the same
way. This allows all operations to demonstrate their environmental status
transparently-- without disclosing any company-sensitive information to the
public or one competitors.
