The Pacific Northwest Economic Region is a quasi-governmental body that includes the States and Provinces of Alaska, Yukon Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, Oregon Idaho and Montana. Were PNWER a country, it would be the 12th largest economy in the world. In this session, we will be hearing from policy experts and legislators what they think are the best uses for LCA and policy.
David Allaway is a policy analyst in the Solid Waste Program of the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. He serves as DEQ's technical specialist in solid waste prevention and is leading several projects to reduce waste generation and the environmental impacts of waste in Oregon. David lately has commissioned LCA’s to evaluate packaging options in Oregon, in response to legislative policy requirements.
Andrew Doi is a Sustainable Business Advisor at the Greater Vancouver Regional District in Burnaby, British Columbia. Andrew’s interest and experience in corporate citizenship/corporate social responsibility/corporate sustainability has helped him apply LCA principles and methods in several projects, including a triple bottom line comparison of conventional and hybrid-electric vehicles for the Greater Vancouver fleet. Andrew’s current work involves the development and promotion of a new initiative for Greater Vancouver’s business community, which is building the business case for eco-efficiency.
Representative Kelli Linville was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives in 1993, representing the 42nd District (Bellingham). With a brief hiatus in 1994/1995 she has served there ever since. She chairs the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and is a member of the Appropriations Committee. She is the Past President of the Pacific Fisheries Legislative Task Force and she chairs the Environment Committee, of the Pacific Northwest Economic Region. Representative’s Linville’s legislative priorities include Watershed management, Performance-based budgeting and Education.
Representative J. Joseph McDermott was elected to represent the 34th Legislative District (West Seattle and Vashon Island) in the Washington State House of Representatives in November of 2000 and re-elected in 2002. Representative McDermott serves on the House Education, State Government and Agriculture and Natural Resources Committees and previously was a member of the House Judiciary Committee. McDermott is currently Vice Chair of the Education Committee. His legislative priorities include education, elections and public disclosure, the environment, and civil rights issues.
Heidi Wills was elected to the Seattle City Council in 1999. She chairs the Energy and Environmental Policy Committee, serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee and serves as a member of the Water and Health Committee. Councilmember Wills also serves on several regional committees, including the Metropolitan King County Regional Transit Committee, the Puget Sound Regional Transportation Policy Board, and the Trans-Lake Washington Executive Committee
